I pre-ordered GT6 and it's not scheduled to arrive until the 23rd... is it normal to not get the game until 3 weeks after the release? It seems like people who pre-order would want it first.

Amazon did this when I pre-ordered Random Access Memories but I got the digital download right away so I didn't care.
If you pre-order at a brick and mortar store you would get it sooner.

When I pre-ordered through GameStop, they informed me there was a chance I might not receive it until after 1/1/14. I was butthurt when I pre-ordered, but I settled down. When people started talking here about playing it, the butthurt grew again....until I received the email from GameStop that it had shipped. I received it like a week and a half ago. Obviously, YMMV.
More to the point, I preordered for all the free in-game stuff. I'm pretty happy with my decision.

Ingame stuff and discounts if applicable. That said, now that I have better internet I tend to use digital distribution more...

i would call and complain ask for $20. you won get the game faster but it will hurt a little less

I'm not upset about it, I am just surprised the people who would want it sooner get it so much later.

I pre-ordered GTA V Collector's Edition (Well worth the $150) through Gamestop, and they told me that there might be a very small chance of a delayed pickup occurring. Thankfully, I was able to pick it up on release day.

Contact customer service. usually they will give you some sort of discount or a coupon for your next order... they are very good about it!

I also preordered mine at GS. Went in on Thursday the 5th and and paid for it, came back the 6th and went home with my game.

I ordered mine online, and had it shipped. I really didn't want to deal with anyone at the store.

I've had this happen with cd audio from amazon - got the album about a week after it was "released'. they have your money - the sale is done.
pre-order is for suckers.
also, when was the last time you went to buy something day 1 and couldn't find it? distribution chains are handling demand better in 2013 than they were even in 2010

Yeah those five minute interactions are a real pita.

Anything I have ever pre-ordered from amazon I have gotten during the morning of the release date, I guess I've just been lucky?

The last time I walked into that store, in order to buy a Playstation Store card so I could buy DLC for GT5, I had to keep repeating "Nope, just the card. Nope, just the card." The website doesn't ask me those questions (or if it did, I ignored them).
Not to mention the location of said store is in a place of heavy traffic (obviously why there's a store there) that I'd really rather not be, given the choice. The five minute interaction isn't hateful, but the full 45 minutes of annoyance of city traffic combined with the five minute interaction is what I avoided. Again, YMMV.

Thanks for the advice, they are refunding almost $35 off the purchase!

Damn....I worked as an Amazon Customer Service Rep a while ago. I knew they would make a few concessions, but I didn't see $35 off $60

It was the shipping and handling, and $20 off the price.

I'll preorder, but not for delivery. If there is a really popular game I want, preordering is a simple way to ensure you get a copy ASAP. Just like how nobody could get PS4's for weeks.
